THE FIRST image of a new housing and retail scheme in Leeds has been revealed.

Ironworks in Holbeck Urban Village will include 58 apartments, 15 townhouses and 1,400sq ft of retail space.

The plans, which have been approved by Leeds City Council, will see the modern development integrated with the site’s historic mill buildings.

Leeds-based Nick Brown Architects will design the scheme, which will feature a number of sustainable elements such as including triple-glazed windows and high levels of insulation.

Honor Massarella, director at developers Igloo, said: “We’re delighted to have secured planning permission for this scheme, into which we have put our hearts and souls.

“The hundreds of creative people who work and enjoy the pubs and restaurants really love the area and I have no doubt that a new generation of residents will love it too.”

The area, which is home to 400 businesses, was crowned UK and Ireland’s ‘Best Neighbourhood’ at the Urbanism Awards 2015. Work is due to start in February 2016.
