Together with sites including Goathland station, made famous in the Harry Potter films as Hogsmeade, and the English Heritage site of Brodsworth Hall near Doncaster, it features in Visit England’s ‘Home of Amazing Moments’ marketing campaign.

Also picked to represent Yorkshire are stunning images of Cleveland Way, the 110-mile trail through the York Moors from Filey to Helmsley.

The campaign represents Visit England’s biggest domestic marketing campaign for the year and focuses on “amazing moments” that can be experienced across Great Britain and Northern Ireland in the run up to the May half-term and summer holiday season. The £2.5m campaign is expected to generate 1.3m additional overnight stays in 2016, with a £100m boost to the UK economy.

It follows a £1m PR campaign by the agency earlier this year aimed at rejuvenating Yorkshire’s £7bn tourism industry after the ravages of the Boxing Day floods. The Love the North campaign saw posters of iconic Yorkshire tourist sites like the Yorkshire Sculpture Park in Wakefield displayed on the London Underground.

Chief executive Sally Balcombe said: “By showing the sheer diversity of activities right here on our doorstep we want to inspire people to book a trip right now to discover their own amazing moments, driving growth in tourism across our nations and regions and spreading its economic benefits across the UK.”
