And her love of making dolls and dolls clothing to sell at carnivals, fairs and supermarkets across the region has seen her raise £25,000 over the last decade.

Over the years she has worked her way through hundreds of balls of wool to raise money to support the work of the Yorkshire Ambulance.

Val, who lives in Cookridge, has even had her name mentioned in Parliament by her local MP who praised her charitable efforts.

She said: “I never thought I would raise so much money from when I first started knitting. It has been fantastic and all the money has gone to such a good cause.

“I’ve met some lovely people and I just love doing what I do.”

The super purler recently presented her latest cheque to the team and had a special glimpse at the charity’s base at Nostell Priory, near Wakefield.

Mrs Pawsey said that she first started to raise money for another charity but didn’t feel her work was being appreciated.

She decided to start raising money for the charity after
she spotted the YAA’s helicopters flying over her home from their Leeds Bradford Airport base

Over the years her attic has been stuffed with balls of wool to help her along with her charity challenge and some of the wool has been donated from well-wishers.

And she said support has been bolstered after she managed to get into a few local supermarkets to sell her knitted goods.

She said: “I always write a thank you letter for their notice board to thank everyone who has donated.

“And when I’ve been into any schools I always send them a thank you letter too.

“I am so chuffed with the amount I have raised and also the support from people who have donated.”
