Key route in Leeds reopens after Majestic building fire

MOTORISTS were given some much-needed good news this evening as a key road route in Leeds city centre reopened following the Majestic building fire.

Quebec Street was due to reopen to traffic – but not pedestrians – at 5.15pm, council bosses announced.

Wellington Street between City Square and King Street remained off limits to both traffic and pedestrians.

The council says both Quebec Street and the City Square-King Street stretch of Wellington Street will be subject to potential further closures from 9.30am to 3.30pm tomorrow.

Bus users were today being told to expect delays on dozens of services due to diversions caused by the road closures.

The fire and subsequent clear-up operation at City Square’s Majestic building caused long tailbacks yesterday evening and during this morning’s rush-hour.
