Keep on moving! Traffic masterplan aims to beat Leeds Festival queues

Special road arrangements are in place as thousands of fans make their way to Bramham Park, near Wetherby, ahead of the start of the event proper.

This year’s masterplan has been worked up by event organiser Festival Republic with a range of agencies over the last nine months.

Key elements remain unchanged from the plan used successfully for the past few years, when the city has been spared any repeat of the infamous pre-festival queues seen in places such as Cross Gates in 2008. Measures include:

* Directing festival-goers from junction 45 of the A1(M) to Bramham Park via local access roads such as Paradise Way;

* Operating an extra route to the site from junction 44 of the A1(M) via the A64 westbound on Thursday;

* Shutting the A64 eastbound to through traffic near the Fox and Grapes pub from midnight on Wednesday until 5am on Friday at the latest.

Non festival-goers have been warned that the Grange Moor and Wattle Syke roundabouts between Collingham and Boston Spa are likely to be busier than normal until Friday afternoon.
