Jubilee celebration snap in exhibition

The picture was taken at Victoria Park in Calverley during celebrations for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and shows 89-year-old former school teacher Maureen Lee, from Bramley.

The image proved to be so eye-catching, it is now on public display at the City Museum after being awarded third place in environmental category of the Changing Faces of Leeds exhibition’s public competition.

The category called for pictures where the surroundings said something about the person in the photo.

In her submission, Teresa said: “My mum was born the same year as the Queen so will also be 90 next year.

“They got married the same year too and started their families at the same time, so if the Queen is having an anniversary, Mum usually is too.

“The picture was taken at the Queen’s diamond jubilee celebrations on Victoria Park, Leeds – Mum’s diamond jubilee of being a television owner.”

Commenting on the photo, the competition judge said: “This is a wonderfully patriotic image - hints of red, blue and white throughout the picture.”

Thousands of people have already visited the Changing Faces of Leeds exhibition, which features a variety of unique images.

The public competition saw more than 500 photographers submit pictures, with the museum team then choosing a selection to appear in the final display.

The exhibition also includes historic photos spanning generations of people who have lived or worked in the city.

Changing Faces of Leeds, which also features workshops, runs until June 5.
