A woman who works on the chilled counter at an Asda store said she has no plans to give up the day job – as she celebrates her 89th birthday.
Jean Cockayne, who is originally from Leeds, has worked at the supermarket since 1971 and said she feels she has “plenty of life” left in her.
Colleagues celebrated her birthday with an afternoon tea and handed her a bouquet of flowers at the store in Nottingham.
She said: “I don’t want to sit inside four walls in the house all day long.
“I won’t stop until I physically can no longer work; I feel like I’ve got plenty of life left in me.”
Ms Cockayne moved to Nottingham when she was 21 and works four days a week.
Tony Brennan, general store manager, said: “Jean is an absolute treasure and such a joy to work with, so we really wanted to show her how much she’s loved by us all.”
