He was the first to be sentenced for abusing the girl after changing his plea to guilty before the first trial.

A married man with children, the court was told he had known the girl since she was a toddler in Halifax. He worked as a taxi driver and had seen her in her school uniform so was aware of her age.

He first had sex with her when she was 15 in his taxi without using any contraception and that occurred on more than one occasion in the back seat of the vehicle.

Afterwards he let her take some money he stored behind the sun visor. His semen was found on a pair of her knickers during the inquiry.

Elyas Patel representing Hussain told the court he deserved credit for having the courage to plead guilty when others had not done so indicating his genuine remorse.

He would say they had sex only three times in his vehicle and he was not responsible for plying her with alcohol or drugs. “He knows by his offending he has betrayed his wife.”

Jailing Hussain, now 37, Judge Marson said: “You were substantially older than she was, there was an element of targeting of a particularly vulnerable child since you had some knowledge of her family circumstances.”

He said it also happened on his own account on three occasions without using contraception. “I regard it as an aggravating feature you allowed her to take money from behind the sun visor, that was no doubt designed to encourage her to repeat the act of intercourse with you.”

But he said he accepted Hussain had acted alone and was not part of any group activity involving the teenager and that he was not the person who initially groomed her for sexual activity.”

He will be on the sexual offenders register for life.

No evidence was offered by the prosecution against a second man from Halifax also due to be one of the first tried. Akbar Hussain, 30 was found not guilty on one charge of sexual activity with a child and a second of supplying her with a Class B drug.
