Sharon Breslin, 46, was given a 27-month sentence after a court heard the 23-year-old victim suffered injuries to her legs, back and neck during the drunken attack.

Leeds Crown Court heard Breslin caused the injuries after spending the day drinking at a Christening party.

Nicoletta Alistari, prosecuting, said the incident happened when Breslin returned to her daughter’s home in Leeds, on August 17, 2014.

Breslin started arguing with another of her daughter’s who was cooking chips in the kitchen.

Miss Alistari said: “The defendant moved the pan slightly and caused it to be spilt.

“The complainant said to the defendant ‘so I have been cleaning all day and you come and make a mess?’

“The defendant replied ‘Does it look like I care’.

“The complainant left the kitchen and turned her back and said ‘when did you ever’”

Breslin, of Whinmoor Way, Swarcliffe, Leeds, then picked up the pan and threw it at her daughter.

She suffered second degree burns to her body and was taken to hospital. The court heard she has been left with permanent scars and has suffered a number of infections during the healing process.

Breslin was arrested and initially denied the attack, claiming it was an accident. She later pleaded guilty to inflicting grievous bodily harm.

Taryn Turner, mitigating, said Breslin had been suffering from anxiety and depression at the time as she was struggling to get over the breakdown of the relationship with her partner.

She added that Breslin has no previous convictions and behaved out of character.

She said: “This occasion should have been a happy family occasion. It was a Christening and she had a lot to drink.”

The barrister added: “She is appalled at what she has done and wants to build bridges between herself and the complainant.

“The complainant is not in contact with her mother and the defendant does not even know where she lives.

Jailing Breslin, Recorder Abdul Iqbal, QC, said: “This was a deliberate throwing of oil by you towards your daughter when you were drunk. This was not an accident.

“I have taken into account that you are of good character and this was an isolated incident but I do not accept the submission that you were truly remorseful.”
