It's the final countdown! Preparations continue for this year's Leeds Festival

Leeds City Council’s licensing committee is due to consider the event management plan for the festival at a meeting next Tuesday.

A report compiled for the meeting shows the crowd capacity for the August Bank Holiday weekend bash has been pegged at 70,000 – but that figure could rise if ticket sales require.

The report says: “The maximum capacity for the event site is 89,999 in total, although the Event Management Plan for 2016 is set for a capacity of 70,000.

“The Event Management Plan will be amended subject to consultation and agreement with responsible authorities if ticket sales are to exceed 70,000.”

The report says that although the festival proper will run from Friday, August 26, to Sunday, August 28, its campsites will be opened for early bird arrivals from Wednesday, August 24.

It also says that “low key entertainment” will be provided within the campsites from the Wednesday.

The busiest day for festival traffic, meanwhile, is expected to be Thursday, August 25.

A highways management plan designed to reduce disruption will see the A64 closed to all through traffic travelling eastbound from the Fox and Grapes pub on the Thursday.

Big name acts playing at the privately-organised festival include Biffy Clyro, Foals, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Vaccines and Courteeners.

The event has been held at Bramham Park, near Wetherby, each year since 2003. Prior to that, it spent four consecutive summers at Temple Newsam in east Leeds.
