Leeds is set to welcome a tasty month of food and drink events as the city’s independent eateries showcase their mouth-watering wares.
Over 100 businesses have now signed up to the first ever Leeds Indie Food Festival which takes place from May 7 to 24, with restaurants, cafes, bars, cinemas, art galleries and breweries among those hosting events.
Highlights include a takeover of Shears yard by Viva Cuba, a candlelit Victorian banquet at Whitelock’s pub, a tour through the art of Aperitivo with Latitude Wines shop and a mystery bus tour starting at the Cross Keys pub.
The closing party will be the Leeds Feast at The Tetley on May 22 and 23, with food traders, craft beer, cocktails and children’s activities. The food revolution will then continue with the annual Leeds Food and Drink Festival taking over from May 22 to June 7.
Indie Food Festival founder Matt Dix said: “We’re so proud and overwhelmed by the support and enthusiasm Leeds Indie Food has received from indies across all sectors. The festival has grown to encompass over 100 business putting on nearly 100 events, and we’re so excited to experience everything they’ve got planned. We’re launching new breweries, creating edible art exhibitions, holding the biggest street food party in the north, and filling hungry mouths everywhere. We think we’ve created something unique, and something Leeds can truly be proud of. No city eats like our city.”
Festival goers can snap up a Festival Passport for £15 which gives food fans discounts, priority access and free entry to Leeds Feast. Passport holders can also collect stamps along the way, competing for rewards and prizes.
