It’s the day when everybody’s social media feeds proclaim how Yorkshire they are and their love for God’s own county.

But when it comes to brands, who has the most Yorkshire of credentials?

We decided to find out:

What else has Yorkshire given the world?

* Cat’s eyes – invented by Halifax’s Percy Shaw in 1934 cats eyes were voted on of Britain’s top 10 designs alongside Concorde, Mini and the world wide web.

* Yorkshire puddings – what kind of Sunday roast is served without Yorkies? A shoddy one, that’s what.

* The beautiful game – Sheffield FC is the oldest surviving football club at world at 161 years old. The founders also introduced rules into the beautiful game that have adopted throughout the world such as the first crossbar, corner kicks and throw-ins.

* Christmas lights - If it wasn’t for Yorkshire, former Love Island contestants wouldn’t be able to earn a buck switching on Christmas lights at a shopping centre near you.

Heckmondwike put on the first public illuminations in the world with a gas-fired light display in 1868.
