A Leeds shop owner was told to pay £940 after admitting offences relating to the possession and supply of illegal tobacco.

More than 260 packs of illegal cigarettes were seized at Europa Food Store on Dewsbury Road during an inspection by trading standards officials.

Tobacco detection dogs found the cigarettes, worth over £1,200, in a concealment in the shop’s toilet area. Kambiz Sawjblagchy of Cottingley Towers, Beeston, was sentenced at Leeds Magistrates’ Court after admitting offences under the Consumer Protection Act 1987.

David Lodge Head of West Yorkshire Trading Standards said: “Offenders need to know they will face consequences if they choose to deal in these illegal products.”
