MORE than 30 floats and walking groups took part in a colourful parade at Otley Carnival.

A downpour at the start of the parade on Saturday (June 15) failed to dampen the spirits of hundreds of people who took part.

Schools from Otley and the surrounding area took part in the event, including Prince Henry’s Grammar School’s concert band.

The Second Otley Scout Group entered a float with a camping theme while the Otley Parish Church Scout Group had a Thunderbirds themed walking group.

Otley Methodist Scout Group entered a walking group with a Harry Potter theme.

The parade ended at Bridge End Show Field, where there were stalls and events including a fair.

Parade organiser Diana Allen – a member of Otley Carnival Committee for 31 years – was presented with an award in recognition of her hard work and dedication.

Bryan Dexter, Otley Carnival Committee secretary, said: It was a very successful event. The atmosphere was fantastic.”
