McGuire will come up against Leeds for the second time as a Hull KR player tomorrow afternoon. He played more than 400 games for Rhinos and was a key part of their most successful era and now McGuire is trying to pass that experience on to his new team-mates.

“At Leeds they’ve got a really good work ethic,” McGuire said.

“That has been the case ever since the early 2000s and it’s something we’re trying to replicate here at Rovers.

“Leeds have been good at that for a number of years, that determination to be in the right place at the right time and not to get beat.

“It is something we’re trying to instil here and I think we’re gradually getting there.”

Leeds have suffered back-to-back one-point defeats, but McGuire fears that makes them more dangerous – and he knows the Robins’ attack will have to be spot on tomorrow.

He said: “They have come away with two negative results over the last couple of weeks, against Wigan and Hull, but if you keep putting yourself in those sorts of positions in close matches, then with the quality they’ve got, they’ll win more than they lose.

“One thing I’ve been impressed with this year when I’ve seen them is they’ve been very solid defensively.

“Not many teams have scored more than 20 points against them and a winning team is built on the back of a strong defence.”

But McGuire is confident Rovers can trouble Leeds. He added: “We just need to get ourselves into the contest against the better teams more often because I don’t think we’ve done ourselves justice against some of the top sides. We’ve got a chance to put that right this Sunday.”
