A United States Air Force transport plane touched down at Leeds Bradford Airport today.

The Boeing C40 jet, registration number 050932, is a specialist transport aircraft.

Airport bosses were unable to release details of why the aircraft was visiting.

USAF personnel are based at RAF Menwith Hill in Harrogate.

The C40 is a transport version of the Boeing 737. Its cabin has a distinguished visitor suite with sleeping accommodation, galleys and business class seating with office areas.

It regularly carries senior military and government figures, and has two-way broadband data communications.

Most of the USAF's C40s are based in Maryland, but one is based in Hawaii and another in Germany where it supports USAF forces in Europe.

Its arrival was captured on camera by local photographer Andrew Easby. Follow him @andreweasby1 for regular Leeds Bradford aircraft movements.
