Around 10 snakes are thought to have been deliberately dumped in wooded areas on Post Hill in recent weeks, with several later found alive in residential areas of Pudsey and Farnley.

Others have been killed by traffic.

The latest slithery creature to be rescued was a non-venomous rat snake that was discovered near the Troydale estate in Pudsey. It has been taken in by a local reptile keeper who also has three of the other re-captured snakes, and who described the latest arrival as 'friendly'.

The snakes are believed to be former pets that were released into the wild, as all are docile and harmless to humans.
