How your support of Postcard to Home project could raise a smile at Leeds care home

Receiving something in the post can remind them about past holidays of their own, days out or time spent with family - and spark a whole host of conversations.

Also in news: Countdown begins for this year's Great Middleton Park ShowThat's the idea behind the Postcard to Home project set up by community website LS26 Local, Dementia Friendly Rothwell and Oulton Manor Care Home.

It has resulted in an open invitation to anyone from South Leeds or further afield to send a postcard from their holiday with a few words about the weather, the food, the journey and day trips, just as you would if sending a card back to your own friends and family.

Explaining more about the project, LS26 Local said: "Any postcard will do, something bright with a local scene would be nice, but even an old retro style card would bring a laugh and a smile to those who read it!

"It doesn’t matter where you are going, or how long for - the idea is that the residents will have something exciting to receive in the post, which reminds them of previous holidays, days out, friends, and postcards they’ve sent and received.

"It will also be great to see how many the amazing people of Rothwell and the surrounding areas of South Leeds will send in. So if you are going away on holiday soon, or reading this whilst on holiday please consider sending a ‘postcard to home’."
