The simple act of buying one extra gift could help to bring joy to the life of a disadvantaged child in our city this Christmas.

Today the YEP is asking our generous readers to lend their support to Radio Aire’s Mission Christmas, an annual appeal which aims to ensure every child in Leeds or West Yorkshire has a gift to open on December 25.

Run by Cash for Kids and backed by all Bauer Radio’s regional stations, the appeal collected more than five million gifts and donations last year.

They were distributed to more than 50,000 disadvantaged children across the UK, including 23,396 youngsters right here in West Yorkshire.

Caroline and Ant, from Radio Aire’s Breakfast show, said: “Mission Christmas is a brilliant way for people to act in the true spirit of the season and give a little something to disadvantaged young people who really do deserve it.

“What was achieved by our generous listeners last year was truly amazing and I know we can do even better this year.

“Even one child living in poverty is too many but with thousands in West Yorkshire in that position, Mission Christmas gives everyone the opportunity to make a real difference”.

Gifts for children can now be taken to drop-off points listed on the Radio Aire website.

Lisa Sullivan, Radio Aire’s charity manager, said: “Last year was an amazing year and I want to thank the public for their support.

“This year we expect to receive a record number of applications and want to be able to help over 23,500 children.

“We can only do this with the generosity and support of our listeners and the readers of the Yorkshire Evening Post.”

This year’s campaign is also being supported by B&M and Ringways Motor Group.

Readers who do not have time to buy and drop off a gift can still support the appeal by making a donation.

Text AIRE to 70808 to donate £5 towards the appeal.
