Green Flag reckons there will be 32,000 breakdowns over the Spring Bank holiday weekend. Predicted problems include 7,000 flat or faulty batteries and around one puncture per minute. Their data also reveals that 20 per cent of breakdowns will take place between 11am and 1pm on Bank Holiday Monday – the most popular time to break down.

Green Flag is encouraging people to check their cars before they travel.

Head of rescue Nick Reid said: “Families across the country will be getting in their cars to make the most of the extra time off.

It’s therefore no surprise that a high number of breakdowns occur.

However, the majority of these breakdowns are avoidable if people take the time to check their cars before hitting the roads.”

The organisation is also
encouraging motorists in the UK to download its new
Green Flag AlertMe app which monitors cars’ engines and batteries to alert drivers with any faults
before a breakdown occurs.
