Housebuilder contributes millions to local projects in financial year

Barratt Developments Yorkshire West, which includes both the Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes brands, contributed more than £4 million to support local projects across West Yorkshire throughout the 2016/17 financial year, highlighting the leading developer’s commitment to investing in the local communities in which it builds.

The funding, which is part of planning agreements with the region’s local authorities, has been put towards facilities such as public open spaces, school and educational facilities, public transport measures as well as many other projects.

The contributions come as a result of a number of new home developments across the Yorkshire region, some of which have recently launched, including Templars Chase in Wetherby, where David Wilson Homes has contributed almost £1 million to a range of local projects.

Chapel Lea in Flockton, Kirklees, has seen over £600,000 contributed to improvements in education, public open spaces, transport and drainage, while Ashmeade Park in Pontefract, has made contributions of £230,000, which has gone towards education provisions and improving local roads and highways.

Ian Ruthven, Managing Director of David Wilson Homes’ Yorkshire West division, commented: “We believe it is crucial to support the communities in which we build, so not only do we want to build new homes but we want to make a difference to the local area. We hope the £4 million we have contributed will go a long way in improving the lives of the people who live around the region, as this is very important to us. The contributions include almost over £1.5m on education, with over £1m being spent on environmental works, which will undoubtedly improve many of the nearby facilities for our residents and the community.
