Horse rescued from ditch

Fire and rescue crews used specialist animal rescue equipment to rescue a horse from a ditch.

The 27-year-old horse, called Flinn, was reported stuck at about 12.40pm yesterday and crews from York and Malton were on the scene just outside York by 1.10pm and the horse was free by 1.30pm.

A spokesman for North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “We used some specialist animal rescue equipment which is on trial at the moment. Using straps, a hose reel and crew power, we were able to free the horse from the ditch.”
