The latest figures come ahead of the Yorkshire Evening Post-backed Be A Hero Day on Friday, September 9, which aims to encourage new donors to give the gift of life and sign the NHS’ Organ Donation Register.

The event is part of the ongoing Be A Hero campaign, which is led by the trust.

And to date more than 50,000 people have signed up to the donation register in the first six months of the campaign to help boost the number of donors across the county.

A remarkable total of 29 people from Leeds have donated organs after they died between April 2015 and April 2016,.

Their donations led to 91 patients undergoing a lifesaving transplant, including some multiple-organ transplants. The campaign hopes to record the highest ever number of organ donation sign-ups in a day.

HOW TO PLEDGE YOUR SUPPORT

People and businesses are being asked to pledge their support to Be A Hero Day ahead of September 9.

The campaign is hoping to gather a record number of organ donation register sign-ups in one day.

People can pledge their support and sign up online.

If the target of 250 supporters is received on the website by September 9, the figure will be released via social media on Be A Hero Day.
