Higham Cricket Club bowled over with homebuilder's donation

Higham Cricket Club, in Barnsley, has been bowled over by a donation from Taylor Wimpey Yorkshire.

The £500 sponsorship will provide new kits for the club’s 1st and Sunday teams, who play near the homebuilder’s Kingstone Grange development.

Ged McInerney, secretary of Higham Cricket Club, comments: “We are currently in the process of refurbishing our facilities and this donation has been instrumental in helping us to extend our offering to current and future players.

“The teams will now be able to attend both home and away matches looking like professional cricketers, ready to play a fantastic game.”

Higham Cricket Club has been in existence for over 100 years, becoming a focal part of the local community. Having fallen on hard times in recent years, it is now run by a group of individuals committed to restoring the club back to its former glory.

Anne Bagshaw, sales and marketing director for Taylor Wimpey Yorkshire, adds: “Higham Cricket Club plays a large part in the local Barnsley community, therefore it was very important to us that we lend it a helping hand to ensure that it remains running for a very long time to come.

“I know that residents at our Kingstone Grange development really appreciate one of their local village cricket clubs and we all look forward to cheering the teams on from the side-lines at their next match.”

Kingstone Grange offers buyers a range of contemporary three- and four-bedroom homes just minutes from the centre of Barnsley. With the M1 motorway only moments away, Sheffield and Leeds are also with easy reach, making the development perfect for commuters.

Ged concludes: “Village clubs, like ours, could not exist without the support of local businesses such as Taylor Wimpey, and we would like to extend a big thank you to the homebuilder for its generosity.

“We are constantly on the lookout for new members and any residents from Kingstone Grange are more than welcome to step up to the crease and show us their bowling arm.”
