Help to grow together

A community group is calling for votes to run a project helping people to grow, cook and eat food together.

Cross Green - Growing Together, which is run by Cross Green Community Group, is one of five projects competing in the Yorkshire region for a share of National Lottery funding in the People’s Projects competition.

The Big Lottery Fund, ITV and The National Lottery have teamed up to give the UK public the chance to decide how £3 million of National Lottery funding will make a difference in their local area.

The three Yorkshire projects with the most public votes will receive grants of up to £50,000 to help them develop their work even further to improve the lives of people in their communities.

On Tuesday Cross Green Community Group will showcase its project on ITV Calendar News at 6pm.

Members of the residents’ association are calling on the viewers’ support, by voting online to decide who wins the prize. Voting opens at 9am on Monday March 20 at www.thepeoplesprojects.org.uk. The group hopes to use £32,000 of funds to offer even more to their community: teaching people more about cooking, so they can eat the food they grow together; reaching out to isolated people who need support and planting a new community orchard.

Mary Brennan, a Cross Green Community Group volunteer, said: “It would be so amazing if we could get this extra funding. It will help us reach out to people who need it the most, and really take the project on to the next level. Help us keep Growing Together.”

Cross Green Community Group is being supported by Hyde Park Source, an environmental charity.
