A doctor who raised £250,000 for a Leeds cancer centre and devised a highly successful campaign to promote compassionate care, despite having been diagnosed with terminal cancer, has been named a Yorkshire Day hero.

Dr Kate Granger, of East Ardsley, died just over a week ago at the age of 34.

She and her husband Chris Pointon were nominated for their huge fundraising achievement for the Yorkshire Cancer Centre Appeal, as well as the #hellomynameis campaign. Kate was said to be “a shining example of true Yorkshire grit”.
