Health: Leeds's CSI

THEY'RE the first aiders who aim to be the fourth emergency service.

The Community Safety Initiative (CSI), set up by Imran Shah, provides first responders to assist the thousands who enjoy the nightlife of Leeds city centre every weekend.

The team provides a quick response to medical emergencies and can prevent an ambulance from needing to be called.

As well as assisting medically, the CSI staff are part of the Street Marshals initiative bringing together the police and other organisations to prevent disorder. In addition they collect glass bottles, refer victims of hate crime to charity Stop Hate UK – which Mr Shah is also involved with – and help drunk clubbers get home safe by ensuring they get in a taxi and checking they arrive home.
