A call has gone out to find the hidden heroes of healthcare.

There’s still time to nominate in the Yorkshire Evening Post Best of Health Awards 2016, which will recognise the true superstars of the field.

We’re looking for a range of worthy winners, including top doctors, nurses, midwives and teams.

Our Unsung Hero category, sponsored by the Yorkshire Clinic in Bingley, aims to put those who work quietly into the spotlight.

Nominees could work in any sector of the health arena, whether in a paid role like a hospital porter or housekeeper, or a work on a voluntary basis. They could be a stalwart charity supporter, or a patient who uses their experience to raise awareness or support others.

Last year’s winner was Jon Ainley, who combines his day job offering a “reassuring voice” for the Encephalitis Society with a voluntary Yorkshire Ambulance Service post.

Our judges were impressed by Jon’s sheer dedication to others, which led him to be described as a true “unsung hero in our community”.

Rhian Bulmer, regional business development manager (North), for Ramsay Health Care, which runs the Yorkshire Clinic, said: “We are delighted to sponsor this award. Our company’s tag line is ‘People Caring for People’ so it makes absolute sense to promote an award that highlights the exceptional work carried out by healthcare professionals in our region and celebrate the care, compassion and dedication that they demonstrate each and every day.”

The closing date is October 19 and the winners will be revealed at an awards lunch on December 5.
