A MAN who kicked his girlfriend in the stomach just five days after being released from prison after an attack on her struggled with police sent to arrest him and had to be subdued by the use of Parva spray.

Richard Hart pleaded guilty at Harrogate Magistrates’ Court yesterday to assaulting Sara Manson in the street last Saturday and also admitted resisting a police officer summoned to the scene by a woman who described his attack as shocking and horrifying.

Prosecutor Kathryn Reeve said 25-year-old Hart and Miss Manson had been walking in Knaresborough Road, Harrogate, when he began to shout at her and pushed her into a wall. When she tried to walk away Hart blocked her with his body, a move he repeated at least 10 times before kicking her in the stomach.

Miss Reeve said a woman who called police told them she was petrified by what she saw and shaking in case Hart had seen her watching.

Court chairman Michael Crosby, who bailed Hart for reports, warned him all options, including prison, would be considered.
