The 20-strong group of Year 11 and 12 pupils at Rawdon’s Benton Park School have organised an auction to help get together the money they need for next summer’s Camps International expedition.

Lots include a weekend in the Lake District, a short break to Whitby and gym memberships.

History teacher Karen Garvie, one of two staff members going on the trip, said: “The students have worked really hard to get businesses – many of them in the local area – to donate prizes and now they’re doing the legwork to sell the tickets.

“We hope the local community will see this as a great opportunity to source Christmas presents, birthday presents or family treats and, at the same time, support the fantastic work of our students.”

During their month in Peru, the pupils will help local communities with building projects before undertaking a trek to the ancient citadel of Machu Picchu.

The auction is being held at Benton Park from 7pm to 10pm next Friday, September 29.

Tickets cost £5, which includes food and live music from Joseph Jones, a former pupil at the school.
