Half-term fun at city theatre

Comedy for teenagers and a fairy tale for toddlers are among the line-up at a city theatre during half term. The Carriageworks Theatre will host an array of shows and activities for youngsters of all ages during the holiday.

The programme kicks off on Monday with Vikings in the Supermarket with Nick Sharratt, the illustrator known for characters including Tracey Beaker. Young fans can meet Nick as he chats about his work and invites the audience to draw along with him. He will also be signing books at the event which is suitable for children aged from six years old.

For older children, the Clean (as possible) Comedy Show offers stand-up comedy with a 12a certificate on Wednesday at Upstairs @ the Carriageworks.

Little people can enjoy Stuff and Nonsense Theatre Company’s re-telling of the favourite children’s story, Three Little Pigs, on Thursday and Friday in a show suitable for children aged from two years old.

Heaven Eyes by David Almond, presented by Theatre Sans Frontieres on February 18, tells the story of three youngsters who run away from their children’s home and set sail down the River Tyne on a makeshift raft.

Linzi Tate, programme manager at the Carriageworks Theatre, said: “We love half term here and have worked hard to create something for all ages, from Three Little Pigs for littleys; drawing with Nick Sharratt for six plus; eerie, humorous drama with Heaven Eyes for nine plus; and stand-up comedy for 12 plus, along with free pre-show activities for most of them - we can’t wait.”
