A six-year-old leukaemia patient has visited blood donation services in Leeds to offer Easter gifts to donors.

Grace Docherty, who is from Hull, travelled to Leeds City Blood Donor Centre, in the Headrow, to thank donors by giving out Easter eggs, having received a number of blood transfusions throughout her treatment.

The actions of Grace come as NHS Blood and Transplant reminds people to donate over the Easter holidays, when the number of donations can drop.

Grace was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia three years ago and is now in recovery. She said: “Everyone should give blood – one day their children may need blood.”

Hospitals nationwide need over 6,000 blood donations every day to treat patients. Visit www.blood.co.uk or call 0300 1232323 to donate.
