'˜Good Samaritan' sought by police after woman assaulted outside Wakefield supermarket

Police are appealing for a good Samaritan who stopped to help the victim of an assault outside a Wakefield supermarket to come forward.

Officers are keen to speak to a woman wearing a brown coat who stopped to help another woman who was hurt outside the Asda supermarket in Normanton on Wednesday June 22 between 3.40pm and 4.10pm.

A 29-year-old Normanton woman was approached and repeatedly grabbed by a man, who was known to her, while she was in the car park.

He left the area after the lady intervened to ask if the victim was alright. It is believed that she may have witnessed the assault.

Detective Constable Clare Barran, from West Yorkshire Police, said: “We are investigating this incident and would very much like to speak to a woman in a brown coat who stopped to ask the victim if she was alright. 

“We believe this lady witnessed the incident and could well have information which will assist with our enquiry. 

“I wish to stress that she is not in trouble of any kind and we very much want to speak to her as a witness only.”
