Going the extra mile for city’s Grand seats

Have your say

Unsung heroes in Leeds who have gone the extra mile could be in with the chance to win one of the best seats in the house for the Grand Depart.

The Yorkshire Evening Post has teamed up with Leeds City Council to offer the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for community champions to see the start of the Tour de France.

We are on the search for 15 people in Leeds who go above and beyond to help transform their local communities.

The lucky winners, plus a guest of their choice, will take their place alongside special guests at the grandstand on The Headrow to see some of the planet’s top cyclists in action on July 5.

As well as seeing the start of the world’s most watched annual sporting event, winners will get an unrivalled view as a spectacular parade of more than 180 floats ahead of the race.

YEP editor Jeremy Clifford said: “There are so many unsung heroes in Leeds who help to brighten the lives of people in their communities.

“Often these unassuming volunteers work quietly behind the scenes with little or no recognition.

“Now is the chance to show your support for their work by giving them one of the best seats in the whole world for the Grand Depart.”

Councillor Keith Wakefield, leader of Leeds City Council, said: “This really is an amazing opportunity that money can’t buy.

“Millions of people around the world are expected to watch the Grand Depart but these unsung heroes will have the best seat in the house for one of the most exciting events our city has ever hosted.

“This is our way of saying ‘thank you’ to some of the many people in Leeds who go above and beyond and help to make the city such a fantastic place to live.”

To let us know who you think should win a ticket, explain in no more than 150 words who you think should win and why.

Email nominations, including full name and contact details for your nominee, to granddepartleeds@leeds.gov.uk no later than Monday, June 16.
