A new business tribe is taking over in Leeds and it is for girls only.

Girl Tribe Gang is a members only collective for women who work for themselves or aspire to do so. It has been taking over around the UK and now the networking organisation is landing in Leeds.

The Leeds Tribe is being headed by ‘tribe boss’ Marie Harris, a Leeds-based businesswoman who, among other ventures, founded The Gin Festival, which held its first event in Leeds.

She is on a mission to inspire other women to set up their own business and reduce the isolation some women who work for themselves experience.

Her first meet-up is at Manahatta, Merrion Street, on March 26 where a panel of businesswomen will share their stories, successes and failures. The panel includes Leeds-based Emily Fitchett, founder of Fitch Brew Co, who raised £150,000 in less than 30 hours through a CrowdCube Campaign.

Mrs Harris promises there will be no corporate nonsense, no breakfast meetings, no sticky name labels, no eating in front of strangers, no awkward introductions, no men and no death by powerpoint presentations.

The 34-year-old said: “This is a really exciting venture for me and one I’m honoured to be involved in. I’m looking forward to finding like-minded women in my community, women who are working from their kitchen table or home office doing work that works for them and their family – and bringing everyone together. It’s all about creating a community of like-minded women, a level playing field and an eco-system of support and encouragement amongst women who totally get what it feels like to be on your own in business.”

Girl Tribe Gang was launched in Ilkley last June by Catherine Asta Labbett.
