Geronimo festival for children

Geronimo Festival, dubbed ‘Glastonbury for kids’, made its debut in 2015 and is heading Harewood House on May 1 and 2.

Hosted by Cbeebies presenter Alex Winters, the day will see BBC megastars including Justin Fletcher (aka Mr Tumble), Mr Bloom, the stars of Swashbuckle and Andy Day taking to the stage.

Other entertainers include a circus, theatre companies, motorcycle display teams, jousters, acrobatics, storytellers, trapeze artists, Bollywood dancing, princesses and a sheepdog display.

Meanwhile children will be able to take part in hundreds of exciting activities including graffiti art, roller skating, puppetry, circus skills, den building, gold panning, free falling and a trapeze school across the two sites.

The event is the brainchild of dad-of-seven Simon Goldman, who gave up a lucrative career in import and export to set up his own festival after struggling to find something appropriate to entertain his children.

Simon, 45, from Salford, said: “We have always gone out as a family, from country fayres to festivals and we never found anything which kept all of our children entertained.

“I decided I was going to create something which would be suitable for all of them, not just either the younger or elder ones.

“I started to keep notes on everywhere we went – the activities we did and the things we saw – and used this to inspire Geronimo.

“Even now, hundreds of thousands of pounds and two years later working 16 hours a day, I have never regretted my decision, not even for a second.

“Last year was amazing – seeing the smiles of my children and those of the 12,000 people who came made it all worthwhile.”

This is Geronimo’s second year, with 12,000 people attending their debut festival at Tatton Park, Cheshire, in 2015. Now Simon is looking forward to giving families across Yorkshire the chance to experience a festival like no other.

He added: “With Geronimo, we’ve created a festival that’s going to keep the kids entertained all day long, and create memories that will last a lot longer.

“Expect a line up jam packed with some of the biggest names in children’s entertainment and there are hundreds of other crazy and unusual activities for kids to take part in.

“This really is the chance to tick off some of your 50 things to do before you’re 11 and three quarters.”

This year Geronimo have partnered with Cancer Research UK Kids and Teens as their official partner charity.

Tickets £25 cost for a day.
