Talented amateur snappers have been entering a city-wide photography contest by sending in their best Instagram snaps of Leeds.
Launched by Leeds Photography Group and The Light shopping centre, the unique competition urges users of the picture-sharing social media site to post their Leeds pictures with the hashtag #Leedslightcomp before the deadline of April 13.
Judges will then pic ten photos to feature in an exhibition in The Light’s main atrium.
Stephanie James, marketing manager at The Light, said: “We’re passionate about creating community spaces that can be enjoyed by all. Teaming up with Leeds Photography Group to create an ongoing exhibition space for budding photographers seemed like an ideal way to build on our community focus, whilst also celebrating our amazing city in a unique way. We’ve already received hundreds of entries, so we’re confident that this initiative will be popular with people looking to get their creative juices flowing – as well as for visitors wanting to see the city in a new perspective”.
Martin Leodis, at Leeds Photography Group, added: “Leeds is packed with really talented photographers, so it’s fantastic that The Light is launching an initiative where this creativity and talent can be displayed for everyone to enjoy. It also provides an important platform for photographers who are looking for a means to get their work noticed. We’re really excited to see the photos that are submitted and shortlisting the very best in photography talent across the city.”
To enter photography into the exhibition, and to be in with a chance of being crowned one of Leeds’ top photographers, upload your best photos to Instagram using the #LeedsLightComp hashtag.
The competition closes to entries on April 13, with winners being announced on April 18 across The Light’s Instagram page.
