The funeral of a Leeds rugby player who died suddenly at the age of just 25 is to be held in the city.

Roundhegians RUFC player Gareth Puttock passed away in his sleep earlier this month, shortly before he was due to be named the Roundhay-based side's Clubman of the Year.

The graduate, who worked for Lloyds Banking Group, had only been living in Leeds for a year, but his family have chosen to hold the ceremony locally rather than in his home county of Devon.

The second-row forward was described as having made a 'huge contribution' to the social life of the club in his first season, and was popular and well-liked.

Gareth's funeral will take place at Rawdon Crematorium on June 2 at 3pm. Friends and team-mates are invited to join the rugby community for a wake afterwards at the Roundhegians clubhouse.
