Funeral date set for cyclist '˜Tats' who died in Kirkstall Road tragedy

THe funeral of a well-loved cheerleading coach who died in a crash on Leeds' Kirkstall Road is to take place this week.

John Harkins, 33, died when his bicycle was involved in a collision with a silver Volkswagen Golf on Monday, November 14.

Tributes poured in for Mr Harkins, who was also known as ‘Tats’ on account of his tattoos and ran classes at a gym in Lockwood Court and Leeds Beckett University - following his tragic death.

In statement released earlier this month, Mr Harkins’ family said: “The devastating loss of John has left a void in all our lives.

“He was a gentle giant loving and caring of all he met.

“He excelled in everything he set his mind to, from education, to sport, to being the most fabulous son, brother and uncle a family could wish for.”

Mr Harkins’ funeral is due to take place on Friday at 9.45am at St John’s Church, Barrow Island, Cumbria – where he was from originally – followed by cremation at the cemetery. Any donations can be given to the North West Air Ambulance.
