Funds on offer to protect properties in Leeds from future flooding

Council bosses in Leeds have announced more information about a grants scheme that will help people protect their properties from future flooding.

Grants of up to £5,000 are on offer to homeowners and businesses hit by Boxing Day’s floods.

They will fund improvements to “flood resistance and resilience measures” at affected properties.

Applications should be submitted by March 31 and the resulting work will have to be carried out by the end of September.

The council has already made grants of up to £2,500 available to help with people’s short-term clean-up and recovery costs.

Leeds City Council leader Coun Judith Blake said: “We are determined to do everything we can to help anyone affected by these floods, and in the longer term to stop this damage from happening again by ensuring Leeds receives the comprehensive flood defences it deserves.”

Information will also be available at a flood advice roadshow and fair taking place in Victoria Gardens in Leeds city centre on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this week.
