Organisers at a south Leeds church are celebrating a funding boost to help them launch a hub for the community.

St Luke’s Church in Holbeck is preparing to start work on a year-long project to rennovate and extend the building.

The Grade II-listed church has been given cash from the Big Lottery Fund to create the extension, which will be used as a space for youth activities, employment courses and community events. Once completed, it will feature community rooms, a well-equipped catering kitchen, project offices and improved toilet facilities. As part of the project, there will also be a team including a social and employability worker at the site to support families.

Coun Angela Gabriel, Beeston and Holbeck, said: “St Luke’s is at the heart of the community, and these project workers and community rooms at the church will make a big difference in the area.”
