Steven Wall, who lived and worked at homelessness charity Emmaus Leeds, died earlier this year after a two year battle with cancer.

The Emmaus Leeds community wanted to do something together in memory of Steven and to support two charities close to his heart.

Wall’s Walking Challenge will take place in four locations throughout 2016. All money raised will be donated to Macmillan Cancer Support, St Gemma’s Hospice and a memorial plaque to celebrate the life of Steven.

Katrina Mattock, community leader at Emmaus Leeds, said: “This fundraising challenge is a great way for Emmaus Leeds community members to come together to celebrate the life of Steven, who was so well thought of in our community. As well as benefitting their health and wellbeing, those taking part are also learning new skills and raising money for some very worthy causes.”

Emmaus Leeds, based in St Mary’s Street, supports 26 formerly homeless people by providing them with a stable home and work for as long as they need it.

Darren Robinson, one of the companions at Emmaus Leeds and organiser of the fundraising challenge, said: “I completed the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge last year so I’m looking forward to seeing the view from Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough again. This year I want to push my limits further than I have before by also walking up Snowdon, Scafell Pike, and Ben Nevis as well as completing the Yorkshire challenge for the second time. I know I will have that feeling of positivity and happiness when I reach the top of each peak and I will feel proud of what I have accomplished at the end.”
