Yorkshire beauty spot Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal will be opening late on Saturdays in October to illuminate the abbey ruins in spectacular golden light.

‘Fountains by Floodlight’ has become an annual tradition at the popular attraction.

As the nights draw in and the evenings get darker, the National Trust property near Ripon will be full of dramatic light every Saturday night, with last entry at 8pm. Visitors can take a special after-dark look round the ruins at the World Heritage Site and be surrounded by the sounds of local choirs performing under the arches of the cellarium.

Marketing manager Alexa Morton said: “You always know autumn has properly arrived when Floodlighting begins. Seeing the abbey bathed in light is such a unique experience.” Visit www.nationaltrust.org.uk.
