Former Leeds drug dealer broke serious crime order over stash of cash found in bedside cabinet

Marvin Wilson, 52, committed the offences while on licence after being released from jail midway through a ten-year sentence imposed in 2011 for possessing cocaine worth £250,000.

Leeds Crown Court heard Wilson was made the subject of a serious crime prevention order upon release from custody banning him for possessing more than £1,000 in cash. The order also stated he must inform police of any vehicle under his control.

Police stopped VW Scirocco on November 11, 2016, as it was being driven in Leeds by an associate of Wilson.

Investigations revealed that Wilson was also insured to the drive the vehicle and had not informed police.

The defendant was arrested and his home was searched. A total of £1,950 in cash was found in a bedside cabinet. The court heard a book called the ‘Cannabis Growing Bible’ was also found but there was no evidence of the class B drug being grown at the property. Wilson, of Rhodes House Weatherby, pleaded guilty to two breaches of a crime prevention order.

James Gelsthorpe, mitigating, told the court the defendant had not properly understood the details of the order.

He added that Wilson had been on benefits and had the money as he was paying his rent in cash.

Wilson was given a 15-month sentence, suspended for two years, and ordered to do 150 hours of unpaid work.

Recorder Greame Cook said: “I hear what you are saying as far as the car is concerned and as far as the money is concerned.

“I am suspicious. But suspicion is not enough to deviate from the sentence I had in mind.”

Undercover officers witnessed a meeting between Wilson, 44, and another person in a lay-by near the M62 before they travelled in convoy to a house in Swillington.

Officers stopped Wilson’s car and found drugs.

A search warrant was then executed at the property he visited and two kilograms of cocaine, a large quantity of ecstasy tablets and cannabis were recovered, along with £10,000 cash.

Wilson was also found in possession of a fake passport and matching birth certificate, which he used to rent offices in Hunslet, Leeds..

It is believed this office space was going to be used to store drugs.

Wilson, of The Meadows, Scarcroft, Leeds, admitted conspiring to supply cocaine, ecstasy and cannabis, possessing false documents and being in possession of and using a false passport, money laundering and fraud by false representation.
