An Asian inspired pop-up which has been the talk over the tables of the city’s food fans has secured a month-long residency at Leeds rock ‘n’ roll bar, Oporto.
Launching from next Wednesday, XO Supper Club will take place at Oporto every Thursday and Friday evening, between 7pm and 10pm, throughout the month.
Its five-course sharing menu showcases the finest Asian cuisine in the relaxed and intimate setting of Call Lane’s legendary dive bar.
It is the brainchild of Jonathan Hawthorne, who has worked in some of the world’s finest restaurants such as Noma, Quay and Leeds’ very own Michelin Star restaurant, Man Behind The Curtain.
The continually evolving menu changes each night and is also a mystery until the night.
But City Buzz can reveal that diners can expect twists on classic dishes such as the cheeseburger spring roll and a ‘fine dining cheese toastie’ stuffed with chicken, mozzarella and kaffir lime.
The bar staff at Oporto have curated a short drinks menu to complement the style of menu including cocktails and a selection of craft ales from around the world with a soundtrack for the night which features cutting edge indie, pioneering hip-hop and rock bangers.
Jonathan Hawthorne said: “I would love people to come down and try something a bit different. There’s no smoke and mirrors with my cooking, just really tasty food.”
Ross Millar, GM of Oporto, added: “Having first opened in 1996, Oporto is well known for its rock ‘n’ roll antics and general debauchery – and yet despite what they say, you can teach an old dog new tricks.
“We’re looking forward to collaborating with one of the city’s most talented chefs for this unique dining experience.”
