One of history’s most fearsome warrior queens will come under the spotlight at Leeds-based Royal Armouries later this month.

As part of the museum’s Legends series of events the story of Celtic leader Boudicca will be featured with action-packed combat demonstrations, living history displays, have-a-go activities and face painting on November 24 and 25.

Events and Informal Learning Manager Mark Jackson, said: “Boudicca will be familiar with many of us from studying early Britain at school, with stories of her uprising against the might of the Roman forces taking on a folkloric status in Britain’s history.

“The Royal Armouries will bring to life the experiences of the Celts and Romans, with activities for all ages to get involved in, including have-a-go demonstrations, face painting, live-action combats and storytelling.”

Visitors will be able to see an action-packed combat between Boudicca and Cartimandua, the queen of the Brigantes, get their face painted like a Celtic warrior, witness Roman living history displays and battle formation demonstrations, and handle weaponry similar to that used by Celts and Romans.

The weekend is part of the museum’s wider Legends series of events, exploring mighty and mysterious warrior legends from cultures around the world through the remarkable objects in the Royal Armouries collections and more for all ages.

On November 24 there will also be an evening storytelling (5–6.30 pm).

Acclaimed performance storyteller Maria Whatton and musician Sarah Matthews will be telling the tale of one of Ireland’s most legendary warriors, Fionn Mac Cumhaill. Tickets for ‘The Ways of the Wild’ are £7 per person and can be bought online.

Other upcoming events in the Legends series include a weekend inspired by hallowed leader of medieval myth King Arthur (29 – 31 December).
