Businesses in Leeds city centre were hit by a power cut today (Monday) after a generator installed following the floods failed.

Northern Powergrid said 111 properties on and around The Calls were affected when the generator – brought in after the Boxing Day deluge interrupted power supplies – broke down at about 1.45pm.

A spokeswoman said the company was looking into the cause of the failure, but had installed a new generator in the meantime.

Power was restored at about 4.15pm.
