FIVE people have appeared in court charged with the murder of a man who suffered fatal stab injuries.
Three adults and two youths appeared before Leeds Crown Court yesterday over the death of Christopher Wade.
Mr Wade, 27, died on Wednesday May 6 after being attacked in an area near the Butterbowl pub in Butterbowl Drive, Farnley, the previous day.
Mr Wade was in a critical condition when he was driven to Leeds General Infirmary at about 4.30pm on Tuesday.
He underwent emergency surgery but was pronounced dead the next day. A post mortem examination has shown Mr Wade died as a result of a single stab wound to the leg.
Kyle Hirst, 23, of St Ives Mount, Armley, Jordan Beer, 19, of Whincover Drive, Farnley, and Frannkie Mongan, 19, of no fixed address, appeared before the court yesterday alongside two youths, aged 16 and 17, who cannot be identified.
No pleas were entered. All five were remanded in custody.
They will appear before the court again for a further hearing on May 21.
A provisional trial date was set for September. Two men, aged 42 and 45, and a woman, aged 31, have also been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.
Flowers have been left at the scene of the incident, including one with a message addressed to “my best friend and my soulmate”.
It said: “It feels like my heart’s been ripped into a million pieces...I’ll never forget you.”
Another said: “Gone far too soon mate, you will always be my best pal and I will always be thinking of you.”
Det Chief Insp Jim Dunkerley, of West Yorkshire Police, said: “We are continuing to appeal for information and would still like to hear from anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident.”
