First look at new Motown-themed pizza parlour in Leeds

Have your say

WITH so many bars in Leeds city centre these days, competition is fierce.

It’s no wonder that new venues are trying to offer something unique to keep ahead of the game and get punters through the doors.

And that’s no different for LAB bar.

After opening back in 2014, it has since played host to pop-up cheese restaurant Homage2Fromage, which closed its doors last week after a seven-month stint.

But now the Merrion Centre bar is mixing things up again as it transforms the venue into a new venture.

LAB has been turned into a Motown-inspired all-you-can-eat pizza joint called Marvin’s Pizza Parlour – named after the legendary singer Marvin Gaye.

The Motown element is first noticeable in the music and the decor, with a huge spray-painted mural of Marvin himself on the main wall.

The pizzas and cocktails are also Motown-themed, from the Smokey Robinson and The Four Tops to the Motown Mojito and Island Records Iced Tea.

Ben Warren, operations manager at the Jones Bar Group, said: “Graffiti artists have been let loose and we’ve brought in new furniture and new signage.

“The music will be great and all of the pizzas, milkshakes and cocktails have been named after Motown stars and songs.”

Diners can tuck into an all-you-can-eat salad bar and pizza from £7 if visiting before 5pm, or £12 after 5pm.

The new-look eatery is launching to the public this weekend and is only scheduled to be in place for a six month stint so make sure you don’t miss it.
