The alarm was raised at Brightwash Laundrette on Meanwood Road at 2.13am. Firefighters from Moortown, Cookridge and Gipton attended.

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said the ground floor of the property was 20 per cent involved in the blaze when crews arrived, and four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used hose reels to put it out.

The blaze followed an earlier fire at a house in Back Midland Road, Headingley at just after half past midnight.

Firefighters arrived to find the attic of the house fully alight. No one was at the property at the time and it is believed the fire started in the first floor bathroom.

Two engines and the aerial platform from Leeds were used to put out the blaze.
